What happened to ColdFusion

ColdFusion

I occasionally check the Tiobe rankings to see how the ColdFusion language is stacking up against other languages.  For some time CF was climbing the charts pretty steadily.  Now, it looks like it has dropped significantly according to this list ...

(ColdFusion checks in at 29th out of the top 50)

I wonder what that means?

It probably means TIOBEs methodology for assessing "worth" is just plain crap. That's not any particular defense of CF, but analysing search result patterns without being expllicit about the methodology is not all that useful.

"he index can be used to check whether your programming skills are still up to date or to make a strategic decision about what programming language should be adopted when starting to build a new software system." Ya right.. just racing out to update my collecton of C, Pascal and COBOL books..

Geoff, I actually agree with you on that for the most part...except that it sort of makes me feel silly for celebrating CF's dramatic rise to glory not too long ago. (I think it hit 16th or so)

It probably means that the number of CF jobs is relatively steady (probably with a lot of government work) while the market is volatile. The total number of jobs grows steadily, but the relative number declines in a bull market and grows in a bear market because the total market jumps up and down.
