Web Site Criticisms

ColdFusion

A couple web sites I don't like (yet still frequent anyways):

  • Blockbuster.com :  Overall, not too bad.  It is very easy to manage my movie queue.  But! the grainy images used for the layout just do the site in.
  • FoxNews.com :  It feels like the stylesheet wasn't included, or I have just landed on a geocities site or something.  I think I can see what they were attempting...more whitespace and such.  But, it was just poorly executed IMO.

NOTE:  There are obviously much worse sites out there...but the sites mentioned should have a little more 'muscle' behind their web presence.  Also. I'm REALLY sure Blockbuster and Fox care what this lowly web developing peon has to say.  :)

I agree with you on both accounts. Especially on FoxNews.com, and it's even better now than it was before. Do you remember that HORRIBLE background image they had? OH man...

How in the hell did you get a custom context menu for the spot?

While you're criticising sites for styling issues, you might want to re-think your own decision to have your links on your blog dark grey on a black background. On my monitor, and on my laptop, the main indication there's a link is that there seems to be a gap in the text.

I'd suggest a greater contrast between the black background and the link text.

Hey, thanks for the constructive feedback Mike. I happen to like the dark/dark theme I have going on. But, I appreciate you taking the time to offer suggestions.

For anyone who still cares... www.Blockbuster.com has had a nice makeover. I haven't decided if I like the usability yet, but it sure looks a ton better.
